Practical advisory work that produces lasting change.

Every engagement produces something tangible. A clearer structure, a rebuilt role, a diagnostic that names the actual problem. Here is what that looks like in practice.

01

Role Clarity & Job Design

Typically $1,200–1,800 per role

Who this is for

Owner-managers and leaders whose people are capable but operating without clear accountability, defined decision rights, or a shared understanding of what success looks like in their role.

What's involved

Each role is assessed and rebuilt using the Strategic JD Model, a performance tool that defines Key Result Areas, Measures of Success, behavioural expectations, and decision rights relevant to that role. The result is a job description that actually reflects how work gets done and what the business needs from the person doing it.

Entry conditions

Organisational purpose is clearly articulated and reasonably lived in.

Structure is broadly congruent with what the business is trying to achieve.

This is not an org design or transformation engagement.

Minimum scope: three roles.

02

Transformation & Change

Who this is for

Leaders who know the current way of operating isn't working and are ready to do something about it, including looking at their own role in the problem.

What's involved

A structured engagement built on the CLEAR Model, James Kilby Advisory's proprietary transformation methodology. Covers diagnostic and problem framing, role clarity and decision rights, operating rhythm redesign, behaviour framework, leadership narrative, and a reinforce phase that builds the internal capability to sustain change independently.

Entry conditions

Current ways of operating are provably inadequate and a defined sponsor owns the outcome.

Leadership is open to the possibility that role ambiguity, decision rights and their own behaviour may be part of the problem.

Adequate scope exists to redesign how work actually runs.

The organisation has capacity to absorb change and can articulate a desired state within 3 to 6 months.

03

Focused Advisory Session

Typically $2,500–5,500 depending on scope and delivery

Who this is for

Most SMEs don't have a board. This is the next best thing. A structured session with an experienced outside perspective focused entirely on one problem. For leaders who need a decision made, a direction set, or a complex problem worked through.

What's involved

A focused advisory engagement built around a single issue. You bring the problem, James brings the structure and outside perspective. Every session includes pre-work to ensure the time in the room is spent on solutions, not scene-setting. You leave with a clear output, a decision made, a direction agreed, or a recommended path forward.

04

Strategic Diagnostics

Typically $3,500–5,000

Who this is for

Leaders facing a significant decision or problem they cannot clearly frame, and who are genuinely open to findings that may implicate leadership as part of the problem.

What's involved

A structured diagnostic using SCQ framing and a Tushman-Nadler congruence analysis. The SCQ framework articulates the situation, complication, core question and recommended answer. The congruence analysis identifies where misalignment sits across work, people, structure and culture, and how it is limiting the business. Output is a written findings report. Where relevant, a recommended path forward is included. The client is under no obligation to continue working with James Kilby Advisory beyond the diagnostic.

Entry conditions

A defined owner exists on the client side.

Scope is agreed before the engagement begins.

05

Operating Rhythm Design

Typically $4,500–7,500

Who this is for

Business leaders, where the root cause of underperformance has been identified as a coordination problem. Strategy isn't landing, decisions aren't made effectively or activity is high but not reflected in output.

What's involved

A structured audit of the current meeting and forum landscape, followed by a redesigned operating rhythm with the right meetings, people, cadence and decision flows. Includes decision pathway mapping, accountability structures tied to roles and KRAs, and a transition plan from current state to new rhythm.

Entry conditions

Roles and decision rights are on the table and all roles are in scope.

Strategic JDs are not a prerequisite but may be recommended where accountability gaps are identified.
